What Exactly is the CA Foundation Result?
The CA Foundation result is ICAI’s official declaration of your performance in the Foundation exam. It details your subject-wise marks, total score, and most importantly, your pass or fail status. For months, students dedicate themselves to rigorous preparation, and this result reflects their hard work and understanding of the core subjects.
ICAI conducts these exams in January, May, and September, with results generally following about a month later. For instance, if you appeared in May, expect your results by late June or early July. Remember, results are exclusively available online; ICAI does not dispatch physical mark sheets.
Passing the CA Foundation exam makes you eligible to register for the Intermediate level, propelling you further into your CA journey. If you don’t clear it on the first attempt, there’s always the opportunity to reappearance in the next cycle. ICAI also releases a pass percentage, offering insight into the overall performance of students nationwide.

Crucial: Passing Criteria for CA Foundation
To successfully clear the CA Foundation exam, you must meet specific passing criteria set by ICAI. Adhering to these rules is paramount for qualifying.
Here are the essential CA Foundation Passing Rules:
- Minimum 40% in Each Paper: You must secure at least 40 out of 100 marks in every single subject.
- Minimum 50% in Aggregate: Your total score across all four papers must be at least 200 out of a maximum of 400 marks.
- No Paper Below 40%: Even if your aggregate score is 200 or above, failing to achieve 40% in any one paper will result in an overall fail.
Example Scenario:
- Scenario 1 (Fail):
- Paper 1: 50
- Paper 2: 55
- Paper 3: 45
- Paper 4: 35 (❌ Below 40%)
- Result: FAIL (Despite a total of 185, one paper is below 40%)
- Scenario 2 (Pass):
- Paper 1: 50
- Paper 2: 55
- Paper 3: 45
- Paper 4: 50
- Result: PASS (Each paper above 40%, and total is 200+)
This stringent criterion ensures that students possess a foundational understanding across all subjects, preventing specialization at the expense of other vital areas.
What if You Disagree? Applying for Verification of Marks
If you believe there might be an error in your scores, ICAI offers a “Verification of Marks” facility. This process involves re-checking for totaling errors, un-assessed answers, or marks awarded to blank pages – it is not a re-evaluation of your answers.

- Log in using your user ID and password.
- Click on the “Apply for Verification” link.
- Select the specific papers you wish to get verified.
