The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India<\/strong> (ICAI) has released the revised new syllabus for the Chartered Accountancy (CA)<\/a> Foundation level examinations, which will be held in June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICAI has changed the CA Foundation syllabus 2025<\/strong> for the upcoming May and November examination terms. You can download the whole curriculum for each subject of the CA Foundation course<\/a><\/strong> in PDF format. The revised Scheme of Education and Training for the Chartered Accountancy course<\/a><\/strong> will be implemented on July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICAI<\/a>‘s Committee for Review of Education and Training (CRET) developed a New Scheme of Education and Training for the 2024 examinations. The new curriculum adheres to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) international education standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ICAI CA Foundation Course Syllabus 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CA Foundation registration<\/a><\/strong> and conversion to the new syllabus will begin on August 2, 2023. The first exam under the new method will take place in June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAPER 1: ACCOUNTING (100 MARKS)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Objective<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

To develop an understanding of the basic concepts and principles of accounting and apply the same inpreparing financial statements and simple problem solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contents<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

1. Theoretical Framework<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

(i) Meaning and Scope of Accounting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) Accounting concepts, principles and conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iii) Capital and revenue expenditure, capital and revenue receipts, contingent assets and contingentliabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iv) Accounting policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(v) Accounting as a measurement discipline \u2013 valuation principles, accounting estimates.Accounting Standards – concepts and objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.  Accounting Process<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

(i) Recording accounting transactions: principles of double entry book- keeping, books of originalentry – journal, subsidiary books, cash book, ledger-format, posting from journal and subsidiary books, balancing of accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) Preparation of trial balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iii) Rectification of errors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Bank Reconciliation Statement<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Introduction, reasons and preparation of bank reconciliation statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Inventories<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Meaning, basis and technique of inventory valuation, cost of inventory, net realizable value and recordsystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Depreciation and Amortisation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Tangible  and  intangible  assets-Meaning  and  difference,  concepts,   methods of computation and accounting treatment of depreciation  \/  amortisation, change in depreciation method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Bills of exchange and Promissory notes<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Meaning of bills of exchange and promissory notes and their accounting treatment; accommodationbills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Preparation of Final accounts of Sole Proprietors<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Elements of financial statements, closing adjustment entries, trading account, profit and loss account and balance sheet of manufacturing and non- manufacturing entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Financial Statements of Not-for-Profit Organizations<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Significance and preparation of receipt and payment account, income and expenditure account and balance sheet, difference between profit and loss account and income and expenditure account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Accounts from Incomplete Records (excluding preparation of accounts based on ratios).<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

10. Partnership and LLP Accounts<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

(i) Final accounts of partnership firms and LLPs.
(ii) Admission, retirement and death of a partner including treatment of goodwill.
(iii) Dissolution of partnership firms and LLPs including piecemeal distribution of assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11. Company Accounts<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

(i) Definition of shares and debentures.
(ii) Issue of shares and debentures, forfeiture of shares, re-issue of forfeited shares.
(iii) Redemption of preference shares and debentures (excluding purchase and redemption of owndebentures and sinking fund method).
(iv) Accounting for bonus issue and right issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAPER 2: BUSINESS LAWS (100 MARKS)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Objective<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

To develop general legal knowledge of the law of Contracts, Sales and understanding of various forms of businesses and their functioning to regulate business environment and to acquire the ability to address basic application-oriented issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Indian Regulatory Framework<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Major Regulatory Bodies such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, SEBI, RBI, IBBI, Ministryof Law and Justice, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Indian Contract Act, 1872<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

General nature of contract, Consideration, Other essential elements of a valid contract, Performance of contract, Breach of contract, Contingent and Quasi Contract, Contract of Indemnity and Guarantee, Contract of  Bailment  and Pledge, Contract of Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. The Sale of Goods Act, 1930<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Formation of the contract of sale, Conditions and Warranties, Transfer of ownership and Delivery of goods, Unpaid seller and his rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. The Indian Partnership Act, 1932<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

General Nature of Partnership, Rights and Duties of partners, Reconstitution of firms, Registration and Dissolution of a firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. The Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Introduction-covering nature and scope, Essential  features,  Characteristics  of LLP, Incorporation andDifferences with other forms of organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. The Companies Act, 2013<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Essential features of company, Corporate veil theory, Classes  of  companies, Types of share capital, Incorporation of company, Memorandum of Association, Articles of Association, Doctrine of Indoor Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Meaning of Negotiable Instruments, Characteristics, Classification of Instruments, Different provisions relating to Negotiation, Presentment of Instruments, Rules of Compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: <\/strong>If new legislations are enacted in place of the existing legislations, the syllabus would include thecorresponding provisions of such new legislations with effect from dates notified by the Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specific inclusions\/ exclusions in the various topics covered in the syllabus will be effected every year byway of Study Guidelines, if required.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAPER 3: QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE (100 MARKS)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
